Ebenezer Awana Grand Prix 2010
NEW PROCEDURES FOR 2010 – BE SURE TO READ
1.
Cars must pass inspection ONE WEEK BEFORE THE DAY OF THE RACE in
categories of weight, length, width and height. Cars cannot be registered until
they meet the requirements listed below. Once cars pass inspection, they will
be stored in a secured room at Ebenezer for one week until the day of the race.
2. On the night of the race wheels
may be lubricated. No other adjustments or alterations will be permitted. However, a car may be repaired if it is
damaged during racing.
RULES & REQUIREMENTS
1. Overall
length of the car may not exceed 7". Overall width may not exceed 2
3/4". Maximum overall height is 3".
(These limitations are to prevent interference with other cars on
adjacent tracks or with the finish line detector.)
2. Car
weight must not exceed 5 ounces. Weight may be added to lighter cars as long as
the weight is secure in the car.
(Suggestion: Drill out a hole and
add melted lead or BB's, washers, etc., and finish off the hole with melted
candle wax.) We will be glad to weigh
the car at Awana any Wednesday night. At
registration our scales will be "officially correct," no matter where
you may have weighed it before.
3. Wheels
must be mounted at the normal width of the block of wood before it is altered, because
the car must straddle a guide strip to run down the track. Also, because the car is moving over that
strip, nothing should protrude from the bottom of the car to get caught on the
guide strip, and wheels should be mounted to allow the same amount of clearance
the pre-drilled holes on the wood block would provide. NOTE:
You may drill your own axle holes. Be sure axles are mounted to allow wheels to
run straight.
4. Starting
devices are prohibited. Cars must be
free-wheeling.
5. The
front of the car must be designed so as to give no advantage at the starting
gate; that is, the front end must not extend beyond the starting dowel.
6. Cars must be made from the Awana Car Kits,
using Awana wheels, axles and blocks of wood. Cars made from kits from scout
groups or other organizations cannot be accepted.
7. Cars must be new this year, and not entered
in a previous Grand Prix race. Cars entered this year will not be eligible in
future years.
8. Only one car per person may be
entered.
WHAT ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW
1. A wide variety of designs may be
used. Previous entries have included
trucks, hot rods, hot dogs, baseball bats, antique style
cars, candy bars, etc., etc. Use your
imagination!
2. All clubbers cars will compete against all other
cars regardless of age or what club group the clubber is in.
3.
Trophies are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in both Speed and
Design competition. The judges seek to be fair, and
their decisions will be final.
4. There is no
limitation on parental/adult help given in the design and preparation of the
car.
